I can probably come up with ten things that directly affect my mood, my day, and my life…and in a negative way. My attitude towards these “strongholds”, if you will, keep me away from being able to continually walk with God. In fact, they keep me away from Him. Is this Satan’s will I wonder?
For example, numbers. I’m not talking about the algebra type. The numbers on the scale, the numbers (or lack thereof) in the bank account, and numbers that tend to pile up on my never-ending “to do” lists. It’s unfortunate that I let these numbers consume me.
I begin my day with weighing myself and checking the back account online. My attitude that day will depend on those very numbers. Why do I let these numbers control me so? Why do I look at these numbers as a form of measurement, and that I allow to be directly responsible my level of happiness? It seems silly when I think about this being my reality.
Relationships, food, finances, marriage, education, work, obligations, children… these can all take the place of God and we shouldn’t allow it to happen, yet we do every day. Easier said than done, right? I know. What is controlling you today?
Don’t be discouraged. We can fight these strongholds by prayer and reading Scripture.
Matthew 11:28-30 provides comfort for me today. Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (via Biblehub.com)
